Healthy Ageing & Digitalisation in Japan: Explore, Learn and Connect

From 14 – 18 October 2019 the Embassy of the Netherlands in Tokyo, the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, and Task Force Health Care, will organise a Health Mission to Japan with a special focus on Healthy Ageing & Digitalisation, led by Minister of Health, Welfare and Sports, Mr. Hugo de Jonge.

Japan: a super-ageing society is looking for cost-effective solutions 

Japan is a super-ageing society looking for cost-effective solutions and recently has improved the market access of European companies. Recently, The Netherlands Enterprise Agency | RVO.nl commissioned a market study highlighting opportunities for the Dutch Life Science & Health sector in Japan. The top reasons why Japan is interesting for the Dutch health sector are: 

• GROWTH

  Japan is the third largest health market in the world. Projections show continued growth in health expenditure

• ICT FOR HEALTH

  Although ICT adoption tends to be slow, promotion of ICT for health is expected to accelerate due to increased investments and subsidies

• SUPER AGEING SOCIETY

  Increased life expectancy and declining birth rates have resulted in a super ageing society

  Cost-effective solutions that benefit the elderly and reduce the impact of the shortage of care workers are in high demand

• EU – JAPAN PARTNERSHIP

  The EU – Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) effectuated on the 1st February 2019 will further ease market access for EU health solutions in Japan

• R&D BUDGETS

  Japanese organisations and companies involved in R&D are increasing engagement with overseas partners to jointly develop new solutions that benefit both the Japanese health and the economy

What can you expect? 

The Healthy Ageing & Digitalisation mission provides excellent opportunities to get acquainted and/or strengthen your ties with Japan and explore opportunities for cooperation.

You can expect the following individual and collective programme components during the mission: 

(Please note that below items may be subject to change) 

• Collective visits to relevant stakeholders in Tokyo and two other major cities (Yokohama and Osaka); such as government, (university) hospitals, research institutes, elderly and long-term care providers and other key stakeholders; 
• 2nd Well-Aging Society Summit visit to a leading conference in Tokyo that addresses healthy ageing and digitalisation by connecting government, academia, civil society and industry. For more information on last year’s Summit please click here 
• Seminar(s) and meet-ups on Healthy ageing and digitalisation including local government, key hospital operators, universities, senior care organisations; with opportunities for individual presentations or discussions;  
• Targeted networking and networking reception(s): select your (potential) Japanese  business partners in advance and meet them during exclusive networking events;  
• Knowledge Sharing and possibly cooperation with participants within the Dutch healthy ageing and digitalisation delegation as well as the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare & Sports; 
• Presence and support from the Ministry of Health, the Dutch Embassy in Tokyo and Task Force Health Care. 

To increase the quality and success of the mission a ‘Workshop on ‘Doing Business in Japan’ will be organised prior to the mission.

The participation fee: €1450,- * (excl. VAT)

A 50% discount will apply if you register a second participant from the same company. 

* Costs for international travel, visa, accommodation, meals, individual translators and local transportation in Japan are not included in the participation fee unless explicitly stated otherwise. Please see the registration form for details.  

** SIB Mission Voucher: You may be eligible for a SIB Mission voucher offered by RVO.nl.

With a mission voucher, SME’s can receive a financial compensation up to 50% with a maximum of € 1,500.- towards the participation fee.
