TFHC NORTH AMERICA

The United States is designated as one of the three focus countries within the International Strategy of the Topsector Life Science & Health (LSH). This explains why special attention from the Dutch government and the Topsector LSH is paid to the country in 2017 and 2018. Task Force Health Care has been commissioned as the main point of contact for North America.

  • Digital transformation of health and care;

The Roadmap focuses on the most import LSH regions: Texas (Houston and Austin), Massachusetts (Boston), California (Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego) and Minnesota (Minneapolis).

What trends do we see in North America?

 In North America, the availability of venture capital and the willingness to invest in technology is high.

In the United States the transition from financially driven care to value-based health care offers opportunities in the field of innovative solutions that manage to reduce increasing healthcare costs, increase return on investment and ensure a lower pressure on healthcare capacity.

In Canada, there is interest in collaborating with European technology partners, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Regional information

 United States

  • Fact: The USA has the largest healthcare market in the world.
  • Difficulty: It is necessary to have a local presence, gain market knowledge and forge strategic partnerships that include both financing and market access.
  • Chance: Since the availability of venture capital and the willingness to invest in technology is high, the USA is interesting from an investor point of view.
  • The next years, we’ll:
    • deepen and anchor relationships built in Texas.
    • build relationships in California with targeted activities.
    • explore the collaboration in Minnesota.

Canada

  • Fact: Canada opens doors to enter the US market.
  • Difficulty: The different provinces have their own specific laws and regulations.
  • Chance: The CETA trade agreement offers opportunities for easier market access.
  • The next years, we’ll:
    • conduct and launch market study Canada.
    • follow up with targeted activities based on the results of the market study.

What do we want to achieve?

  • Provide a structural contribution to the improvement and sustainability of healthcare in North America with the use of Dutch expertise.
  • Pursue comprehensive, innovative and sustainable health sector developments, in which we stimulate collaboration, knowledge sharing, and respect and take into account the local needs and demands;
