‘’It was during the trade mission in South Africa that we found local partners. These kind of communal activities are of high value when entering a new foreign market.’’

At the beginning of this year (2016) INCISION Academy joined the Task Force Health Care (TFHC) with its unique approach the INCISION Academy now enables all surgical care providers to optimally prepare for their procedures using one single source. It offers step by step guides for common surgical procedures, including practical instructions and relevant surgical anatomy. Each surgical step is supported with HQ 3d film clips of the procedure. The academy can be used as a learning guide, a reference guide or as part of a continuous medical education.

CEO of INCISION Erik Jan Vlieger MD MSc PhD elaborates: ‘’On a large scale the transfer of skills and knowledge from teacher upon student happened in person or via low resources. Focusing on the transfer of knowledge INCISION filled a gap in the market by visualising the guidance of surgeries into HQ 3d film clips. We started off with digitally archiving 80 different surgeries, it rapidly expanded to 120 surgeries and we are striving to contain a total of 300 surgeries in our data system by next year. In addition, all visuals are accompanied with a universal surgical language. Consistently using  this language within a global network of surgical care providers will accelerate the development, implementation and distribution of surgical innovation.’’ The end users of these online manuals are primarily medical graduates, surgeons in training and medical specialists all part of a lifelong learning process.

Having a universal approach is intertwined with a global focus. Aside The Netherlands INCISION started off in a number of foreign countries namely; Ghana, Kenya and Indonesia. The professional background of the diverse INCISION Team led to the choices of these focus countries in 2014. Recently Norway, Germany and South Africa were added to their list. The latter is an interesting country to highlight with regard to INCISION becoming a TFHC partner. In November 2015 INCISION joined the TFHC with an economic mission led by Prime Minister Rutte to South Africa. As Erik Jan Vlieger describes: ‘’It was during the trade mission in South Africa that we found local partners. These kind of communal activities are of high value when entering a new foreign market. We discovered that the South African government contributes via financial support towards the medical education of its students. As compensation for the financial support medical graduates or doctors in training work at remote local district hospitals for a minimum period of two years. Receiving such a clear overview of the market structure led us towards two local commercial partners that focus on medical training and education. Having said this, it is of utmost importance to set your organisational objectives prior to the mission.’’

On the contrary, during their participation in the trade mission to China (2015) INCISION became aware of the fact that their organisation was not ready to enter this immense and complex Chinese market. Translation issues, slow process of business and copy right issues made them realise that the organisation was not ready yet.
